'The Pray plot summary

Set in 1719, Predator follows the story of Naru, a Comanche tribeswoman who breaks away from her tribe's patriarchal rules and aspires to become a warrior.

When a new threat is announced, it is given an opportunity to prove its worth. Not surprisingly, this new threat isn't an animal or an enemy tribe. It's probably a predator that fell from the sky to prey on the beings at the top of Earth's food chain - humanity!

 Is Naru a skilled opponent?

As you know if you've seen the previous films in the franchise, the Predator is a tough foe to take down. Armed with advanced alien weaponry and the powers of invisibility and heat vision, anyone who dares to take him on in battle has a slim chance of survival.

This is certainly the case in this film, as several of Naru's clan members are killed by the Predator. The alien also defeats a bear and a group of French trappers to find a worthy opponent.

Thankfully, Naru is a decent match for an alien despite being smaller and weaker as he is smarter than his clansmen think.

During the movie, he watches the Predator, learns its attack patterns and makes several realizations. After giving a herbal concoction to one of his tribesmen who was wounded in battle, he learns that the alien cannot track the movements of someone whose body temperature has dropped. He also realizes that the Predator depends on his helmet's tracking mechanism to fire projectiles that kill his enemies.

It's his intelligence that makes him a capable opponent, and he uses what he learned in the final battle with the Predator.

Does Naru beat the Predator?

The Predator kills most of Naru's clan, including his brother Tabbe, who sacrifices his life to protect his sister from the aliens.

Fortunately, killing Naru isn't as easy as those who died before him. Driven by the need to protect his tribe and avenge his brother, he is able to lure the Predator to his place with a captured prey - one of the French trappers. He renders himself invisible by consuming a herbal concoction that lowers his body temperature, and uses the boy's gun to blow up the Predator's helmet after the Predator kills the trap.

He then grabs the helmet and runs into the jungle before hiding in a treetop to wait for the alien. When he finally arrives, he jumps down and deals as much damage as he can to the Predator with his sharp weapon.

A fierce battle ensues between the two warriors, and Naru's head is nearly cut off by the Predator's shield. Naru is able to stab him again before he becomes a headless corpse and then drags the Predator into the swamp where he is stuck.

"That's as far as you go," Naru tells his foe as the predator tries to pull itself out of the mud. When the Predator takes aim and fires at Naru, he uses his helmet's tracking mechanism to deflect incoming projectiles away from him and direct them at his enemy. These kill the predator and Naru wins.

Are Naru and his men safe?

The Predator may be dead, but Naru and his men are not safe. He returns to the tribe with the trophy of victory - the Predator's head - and warns them of the remaining trappers nearby. However, they should be more concerned about this human threat.

During the end credits, there is an animated recap of the film's events. But there's a moment we didn't see at the end of the credits - Naru looking up at the sky in another Predator spaceship!

Sequel

Could this be a setup for a sequel? This is possible. After seeing Naru as a capable opponent, it's possible that the other Predators are eager to take him on in battle, which could be the catalyst for Prey 2.
