Movie Review
Oke Oka Jeevitham has been in the making for a long time now. Sharvanand starrer movie released today. Let's see how it is.
Storyline
Adi (Sharvanand), Sreenu (Vennela Kishore) and Chaitu (Priyadarshi) are three close friends with their own set of problems. One fine day, they meet a scientist (Nasser) who promises to take them back in time so they can fix their childhood mistakes. Excited by this, they agree and travel back to 1998 via a time machine.
When they arrive, they encounter smaller versions of themselves and begin to correct their mistakes. But the twist in the tale comes when the younger versions of the three children use the same time machine and come to the future, leaving the adults behind. What will the three friends do now? How will the groups change places over time? To know the answers, you need to watch the movie on the big screen.
Stories based on time machines have always been interesting. So, it would be interesting to see how the makers will carve out the storyline in the past and present. But director Shree Karthik perfectly blends past and present stories and adds comedy with a good dose of emotions which is the highlight of the film.
Amala is making a comeback after a gap of ten years and is excellent in the film. She plays the role of Sharva's mother and sheds tears in many scenes. His scenes with Sharva form the backbone of the film. Talking about Sharwanand, we all know that he is a smart actor and above all. His performance in all the emotional scenes will surely impress you. He plays his character very well as a submissive person and is the mainstay of the film. The climactic scene with Amala shows her acting prowess.
Priyadarshi casts well and does well in supporting role. Ritu Varma was also impressive in her small but important role. One of the greatest assets of the film is Vennela Kishore's comedy. The comedian stays in character without overdoing it and gives a great performance. It elicits great laughs and keeps the audience engaged throughout the film.
The first half of the movie is quite entertaining and presented in a fun way. Nasser plays the scientist and is great and brings a lot of depth to the proceedings. The three child actors were perfect in their roles. Another major feature of the film is the compelling story. Director Shree Karthik narrates the film in such a way that many scenes have excitement, suspense and fun at the same time.
The second half is full of emotional scenes. It was nice to see the way the movie ended in a very practical way. When it comes to time travel, the logic is well handled and the aesthetics are well designed. The character arcs of the three friends are neat and end on the right note.
Slow Paced
The film is slow paced and takes some time to get into its main story. It's not that the scenes are bad, but a bit of silly screenplay would have made things better for the audience.
In the current scenario, the way the three children behave is not shown properly. Things are easily demonstrated and should have been explained more in this episode.
The concept of time travel is perfectly done. The VFX used, time machine model and production design are top notch. The camerawork captures the 90s in an impressively beautiful way. The dialogues are emotional and the music was also by Jakes Bejoy. The editing could have been sharper to make matters better.
As for director Sri Karthik, he has done a very good job with the film. His story is different and the point of conflict he chooses for each of the friends seems effective. The young director takes a lot of time to build the plot, but in the second half, everything ends properly. Karthik's grip on emotions and comedy was impressive. He didn't go overboard and make the film melodramatic. Just when you think the emotions are taking over, subtle comedy and thrills keep you engaged.
Overall
All in all, Oke Oka Jeevitham is a well made sci-fi drama full of good comedy and sensitive emotions. The lead performances, interesting background and engaging story are the main advantages. Despite the slow pace, this film has strong content and will impress those who expect different stories to be told in an interesting and entertaining manner. Go for it.
